Cherchez La Femme

No matter the length of the journey
For as far as my legs carry me
I shall cross the deserts
Climb to the mountains peak
In my quest to find you
In so far as I believe
I shall discover where you await

You are a double edged sword
Within you resides the power
The power to build
The power to destroy
The power to hurt
And the power to heal

I am a blank canvass
Make of me what you please
I do not fear the pain you bring
For it shall be tempered with joy
It is my hearts desire to find you
True love, my redemption lies in you.

Max Ehrmann Changed My Life

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

How did you discover the Desiderata? What effect did it have on you? If you are just discovering it, do share your thoughts with us. Desiderata (Latin for "desired things"), came to me in the summer of 2002, I visited a bookshop and was instantly drawn to a small book titled 'Desiderata, and other inspirational poems'. I opened the book and was confronted by the most beautiful, meaningful and inspirational prose poem I have ever known. I bought the book and now I read it in happiness and in sadness. I read it for inspiration and also when I need to remain grounded. I read it when I feel lost, and when try to make sense of things. What does this poem mean to you?

Strange Encounters Part 2

I was your typical headstrong argumentative student and I had heated arguments with one of my lecturers. He was an Indian chap and was just as opinionated as I was. We would regularly bump into each other, both in town and in the Law department, he would smile and say hello but his friendliness was never reciprocated.

Towards the end of my final year at uni, i had a number of issues and whenever they came about my lecturer would turn up at the last moment and save the day. There were times that he would walk into 24 hour library and give me tips, the strange thing was that he would always ignore the other students. The night before my very last exam, I felt a familiar tightness in my chest and i knew that my asthma had started playing up again. Unfortunately for me i had misplaced my inhaler and the attack was getting worse by the minute. I managed to call an ambulance my vision got blurry.
When I regained consciousness I was in a hospital with and strapped to a heart monitor. I immediately panicked as i had an exam the next morning, I got into a near scuffle with the doctor and two nurses as i wanted to discharge myself and the felt it was best to keep me over night for observation. The doctor had to relent and pleaded with me to return to the hospital that very night. I discharged myself, walked 45 minutes to my place, packed my books up and walked back to the hospital, studied all night and made my way to the exam hall.
A week later, I bumped into my Lecturer and the first thing he did was pull me aside and inquire about my health. I wondered how he knew about it, and he mentioned that he had taken my health into account when marking my paper, but i had to inform the university in writing. How did he know? How come he was so helpful.
Following my graduation, i approached another lecturer to write a reference for me, I trusted that this lecturer would be fair to me as we had what i thought was a good relationship. The man agreed and I picked up a sealed envelope containing my reference. As I was walking out of the Law building, my mysterious friend turns up and inquires as to what was in the envelope.
"It is a reference from Professor Dickhead" I said.
"Go home and read it first" he said. "And come and see me tomorrow, I will write you another one"
I got home and Professor Dick head was far from complimentary about my attitude. Once again my friend saved me
.
The following day, I picked up the new reference and asked him why he was so helpful.
"Boorish, you do not know this", he said smiling and pulling at his beard. "Neither do i expect you to understand, but we have been friends for many decades". "I know you well"...........................
What do you guys think?

Strange Encounters

To say my life has been interesting would be the understatement of the year, a recurring theme in my life has been the strange encounters i have had with absolute strangers, that appear to know me on a deep level. I'll tell you of a couple.

ENCOUNTER 1

I was a little boy still in primary school, after school one day I went to the shop next door to get myself a couple of sweets. The woman at the stall kept staring at me, smiled, touched my face and said

"Gentleman of the jury".

"What is a jury?" I asked trying to make sense of it all.

"When you become a lawyer you will remember me" she said smiling whilst holding her glare.

"I know who you are" were her last words to me before i walked out.

I totally forgot about this encounter, as fate would have it I eventually got a law degree. Did she know something? I wonder.

ENCOUNTER 2

In 1992 I met a woman at my friends house who stared at me, took me aside, prayed and seemed to have an insight into my life. Here is how it went:

"You have a girl friend named J"

"Yes I do" I replied in total shock. "How did you know this?" I asked

"J is not your wife" She said to me, with a dazed look in her eyes. "She will hurt you, very badly, regret it, but many years later she will play a pivotal role in your life".

"Your future is so bright" She said, smiling whilst appearing so far away. "You are a writer, and your words will be read by people all over the world". "Ooh! You future is so bright".

"You will travel abroad and live there for a long time".

"I see you now, so don't be disheartened and don't feel fed up with life". She said placing a hand on my shoulder. "It is because your spirit is restless and is limited at present".

Here is how it has turned out since then, J caused me a lot of pain, she was downright sadistic, but she spent the last 13 years trying to get back with me. She has been married, divorced and I was mentioned in the divorce papers by her husband as the reason for the break up of the marriage (I never touched her). In the summer of 2004 I ended a relationship and that very night I went to some strange nightclub that was usually frequented by Russians, and J turned up, we danced the night away and over the next seven months became my closest confidante. She convinced me to move home. So I guess she did play a pivotal role in my life eventually.

I never knew that i could write words that could touch people or simply be enjoyed by others until i started writing this blog. Maybe her prophesy came true, because I have people from all corners of the earth reading and enjoying my words.

About having a bright future, lets see how it all turns out. If I am still blogging in 20 years, I'll let you know.

I did travel abroad and live there for many years........

Do you think that she was on to something?

There have been a few more of these encounters, will continue at a later date.....

Regret

I regret returning from Europe without a wife or fiancee at least. I

am facing so many struggles; culture shock, lack of contacts, lack of friends (I have so many aquaintances, but my boys are still in the UK). I regret wasting time skirt-chasing, when I had so many opportunities to settle down with truly decent and loving women (none since i've returned).

I realise now that when there you have two people with the same goal, the obstacles and problems are halved. I hope to meet the right one soon, I pray I haven't missed the boat...................
